Writing Disabled Characters

We’re privileged to work with young writers through our involvement with The Pushkin Prizes in Scotland and St Petersburg and The Young Walter Scott Prize – creative writing initiatives for young people.

Andrew Pettigrew is now going into his final year at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh. He was a Pushkin Prize-winner in 2016 and has gone on to do well in a number of writing competitions. He’s currently writing an insightful and entertaining series of blogs for the Scottish Book Trust website, the most recent of which is about writing disabled characters.

Whatever stage you are in your writing career, it’s well worth a read here.
